Cross River State governor, H.E. Bassey Otu has today, August 16, 2023 sworn-in 31 commissioners who will form his executive cabinet for the 2023/2027 administrative year. The swearing-in which held at the Temporary Governor’s Office, Dan Archibong Lodge, Calabar had the governor assign portfolios to the respective commissioners. Below is a list of the commissioners and their portfolios:
Cross River State Central District Senator, Sen. Eteng Jonah has flagged-off a 2-day training for youths in his Constituency. The exercise, which kicked-off earlier today, August 14, 2023 at Golden Palm Hotel, Ikom, Cross River State will have youths trained in different value chains. According to the Senator’s media aide, Mr. Hope Obeten, the beneficiaries of this gesture are dividend into three categories — Entrepreneurial skills; Agro economy for artisans and Capacity building on domestic violence. The national leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has replaced two ministerial nominees, Dr. Betta Edu and Abubakar Kyari in its National Working Committee (NWC). Until their nomination, Betta was the party’s national women’s leader while Kyari was deputy national chairman (North). Accordingly, Cross River State APC and Borno State APC have both sent replacements to the NWC for confirmation. To replace Betta Edu, Cross River sent former Local Government Commissioner, Dr. Stella Odey and Borno sent Dalori to replace Abubakar Kyari as new APC deputy national chairman (North).
There have been serious bedlams since the news of El Rufai’s failed confirmation by the Red Chamber and even though it was not the former Kaduna State governor alone that was not confirmed, he, however, has been at the center of everything. For the Senate, the reason El Rufai was not confirmed was solely because of the litany of ‘security issues’ he is currently rocking, no thanks to several petitions that accompanied his nomination. Yakurr Constituency 1 House of Assembly member, Hon. Cyril James Omini has gifted a motorcycle to one of his constituents, Mr. Ofem Bassey Utre. Handing over the gift yesterday, Hon. Cyril noted that the gesture underscores his drive to combat poverty in his constituency. “This donation underscores my desire to uplift my constituents and make them financially independent,” Cyril said imprecisely.
The three senators representing Cross River State Northern, Central and Southern Districts, Sen. Jarigbe Agom, Sen. Eteng Williams and Sen. Asuquo Ekpenyong respectively have been appointed into three ‘juicy’ committees of the 10th Nigerian Senate. Jarigbe has been appointed chairman of Senate Committee on Gas, Eteng is chairman on Petroleum Upstream and Asuquo is chairman NDDC Committee. These appoints were announced on the floor of the Senate by the Senate President, Sen. Godswill Akpabio.
Husband to one of the Yakurr Local Government commissioner nominees Mrs. Gladys Eutendala who failed to scale through the House of Assembly screening, Obol Balinwo Ofegobi has tendered a public apology to Chief Okoi Obono-obla over the widespread allegation that the latter’s petition brought a dead-end to his wife’s ambition. After Mrs. Eutendala failed the Assembly screening earlier this week, there were allegations suggesting that Chief Okoi Obono-obla wrote a petition against Eutendala and this said allegation came directly from Eutendala’s husband, Obol Balinwo Ofegobi. On Tuesday, August 2nd, the Cross River State House of Assembly failed to confirm one of the Commissioner nominees from Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area, Mrs. Gladys Eutendala, citing a petition as their reason. Shortly after the news became public, so many fingers went Chief Okoi Obono-obla’s way as author of the said petition. This of course followed several name-callings on the person of Chief Barr. Moon Ray News can authoritatively report that Yakurr commissioner nominee, Mrs. Gladys Eutemdala has failed her screening by the Cross River State House of Assembly. Giving reasons why Eutemdala did not make it to the list of cleared commissioner nominees, Rt. Hon. Davis Etta representing Abi State Constituency and chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary said; “Her nomination brought several petitions from some Yakurr indigenes who raised critical issues of great public concerns against her”. A source in the Presidency has revealed that all the 28 ministerial nominees know their respective ministries and that most of the senators too share in the knowledge.
