The University of Calabar, UNICAL has again suspended another top lecturer, Prof. Cyril Ndifon who is the Dean of Faculty of Law, over alleged sexual assault on female students. According to Ndifon’s suspension letter signed by the school’s registrar, Mr. Gabriel Egbe, the suspension takes effect today, August 17, 2023. Ndifon’s suspension followed a protest by some law students in the institution who accused the Dean of constant sexual assault on female students. The Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu has ordered the disbursement of N5 billion to the 36 states (summing up to N180 billion) of the federation and an additional 5 trucks of rice to each for the 36 states. This was disclosed today in Abuja after the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting for the month of August presided over by the Vice President, Sen. Kashim Shettima. Cross River State governor, H.E. Bassey Otu has today, August 16, 2023 sworn-in 31 commissioners who will form his executive cabinet for the 2023/2027 administrative year. The swearing-in which held at the Temporary Governor’s Office, Dan Archibong Lodge, Calabar had the governor assign portfolios to the respective commissioners. Cross River State Central District Senator, Sen. Eteng Jonah has flagged-off a 2-day training for youths in his Constituency. The exercise, which kicked-off earlier today, August 14, 2023 at Golden Palm Hotel, Ikom, Cross River State will have youths trained in different value chains. According to the Senator’s media aide, Mr. Hope Obeten, the beneficiaries of this gesture are dividend into three categories — Entrepreneurial skills; Agro economy for artisans and Capacity building on domestic violence. The national leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has replaced two ministerial nominees, Dr. Betta Edu and Abubakar Kyari in its National Working Committee (NWC). Until their nomination, Betta was the party’s national women’s leader while Kyari was deputy national chairman (North). Accordingly, Cross River State APC and Borno State APC have both sent replacements to the NWC for confirmation. To replace Betta Edu, Cross River sent former Local Government Commissioner, Dr. Stella Odey and Borno sent Dalori to replace Abubakar Kyari as new APC deputy national chairman (North).

Yakurr Constituency 1 House of Assembly member, Hon. Cyril James Omini has gifted a motorcycle to one of his constituents, Mr. Ofem Bassey Utre. Handing over the gift yesterday, Hon. The three senators representing Cross River State Northern, Central and Southern Districts, Sen. Jarigbe Agom, Sen. Eteng Williams and Sen. Asuquo Ekpenyong respectively have been appointed into three ‘juicy’ committees of the 10th Nigerian Senate. Jarigbe has been appointed chairman of Senate Committee on Gas, Eteng is chairman on Petroleum Upstream and Asuquo is chairman NDDC Committee. These appoints were announced on the floor of the Senate by the Senate President, Sen. Godswill Akpabio.
