President Ahmed Tinubu of the APC has begged the Presidential Electoral Petition Tribunal, PEPT to exclude the Labour Party, LP and its candidate, Mr.Peter Obi in the predicted rerun presidential election, emphasizing that only him and the PDP candidate, Atiku Abubakar qualify for rerun.
According to a report on ThisDay newspaper, this appeal was conveyed in Tinubu’s final written address filed at the Presidential Election Petition Court (PREPEC) in Abuja.
Tinubu argued that if PEPT void the February 25, 2023 presidential election, Obi and his party will not be qualified to re-contest. He said this is because the LP did not participate in the presidential debate organized by the PREPEC, which is a requirement for candidates to be eligible to contest a rerun election.
On the other hand, Obi’s lawyer, Mr Luke Onyeukwu, argued that the LP participated in the presidential debate organized by the PREPEC and that the party’s logo was displayed on the debate platform. He said that Obi’s failure to attend the debate was due to a logistical challenge.
