With just one year and ten months in office, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River announced on Monday that Governor Bassey Otu and his deputy, Peter Odey, have been granted an automatic ticket to contest in the 2027 general election.
Speaking at the APC Secretariat in Calabar, the party chairman, Alphonsus Eba, called on other party members with political aspirations to begin their consultations. He emphasized that, apart from the governor and his deputy, no other individual had been granted an automatic ticket.
Eba urged aspirants to engage with their constituents and build support ahead of the elections. “The State Working Committee and the State Executive Committee of the APC met today and resolved that Governor Otu will be the party’s sole candidate in 2027,” he stated.
He explained that the decision was rooted in the principle of continuity, adding, “Nobody changes a winning team. The governor and his deputy will lead the party’s ticket in 2027.”
Eba further noted that even if Governor Otu were hesitant to run, the party would still present a single ticket bearing his name, as was the case in 2022.
