The University of Calabar conducted a dialogue session between the institution’s management and student leaders to address the issue of school fee increments and supplementary exam fees. Present at the meeting were notable figures including the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, other administrative officials, and 36 student leaders including the SUG President, Hall Governor General, Chairman of Forum of Faculty Presidents, etc.
The Vice-Chancellor addressed the students concerns, expressed the uniqueness of the University’s approach to discussing school fee increments directly with students. She highlighted the importance of this approach, considering all individuals involved as critical stakeholders in advancing the University’s growth inclusively with the student body.
The SUG President, Kichi Ikwo, presented a proposed school fee structure and after thorough deliberation and consideration, an agreement was reached where the fees were categorized into four benchmarks based on different departments.
1) Arts, Agriculture, and Vocational Departments:
Freshers: 106k
Returning students: 70k
Final year students: 74k
2) All sciences, Basic Medical, Allied Medical, Mass Communication, Accounting, Architecture, Engineering, Oceanography, Med Lab.
Freshers: 100k
Returning students: 76k
Final year students: 80k
3) Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing:
Freshers: 120k
Returning students: 90k
Final year students: 95k
4) Law:
Freshers: 115k
Returning students: 85k
Final year students: 90k
