With most states having finished drawing up their respective itineraries for the 2024 administrative year, one expects to see schedules for local government elections in states where the said local administrations expired last year.
Due to the general elections of 2023 and the litany of tribunals that followed, most states were unable to conduct elections to fill the vacant seats of local government chairmen and councilors. So, with all said to have been calmed, states are beginning to announce when the said local elections will be conducted.
So far, the Nasarawa State Government has announced that it plans to conduct election for chairmen and councillors for the 13 local government councils in the state on August 31, 2024.
The Chairman of the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission, NASIEC, Mr Ayuba Wandai, revealed this at a stakeholders’ meeting with officials of the state Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, on Tuesday in Lafia.
