President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has resolved the political misunderstanding in Rivers State after holding a crucial meeting with Gov. Fubara, Nyesom Wike, Peter Odili, and some other stakeholders, at the State House on Monday.
After the meeting it was announced that all parties have reached a consensus, accordingly, the President issued the following directives:
- All impeachment proceedings initiated against Gov. Fubara by the Rivers State Assembly should be dropped immediately.
- That the remunerations and benefits of all members of the Rivers State Assembly and Staff must be reinstated immediately.
- That all matters instituted by Governor Fubara and his team at the court shall be withdrawn immediately.
- That the governor shall henceforth not interfere with the full funding of the State Assembly.
- That the leadership of the Rivers Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule shall be recognised alongside 27 members who resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
With these directives, the PDP is a minority party in the State Assembly and with a Speaker loyal to Wike, one wonders if the FCT Minister will not use the Assembly to put the Governor in a tight fix, especially his financial approvals that must pass through the assembly.
