Former Super Eagles and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, has backed the Nigerian Football team to defy the odds and seal a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three-time African champions started their new era under Eric Chelle with a win against Rwanda in Kigali, with the hopes of continuing their good form at home against Zimbabwe, but a late equalizer has seen their hopes of playing in the 2026 World Cup dwindle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Super Eagles are currently 4th in their qualifiers group, six points behind South Africa, who are primed to qualify for their first World Cup tournament since the 2010 edition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Okocha who represented Nigeria at three World Cups, urged the AFCON 2023 silver medallists to do all they can to win the remainder of their four qualifier games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf we want to give ourselves any chance of qualifying, we have to be thinking of winning all our remaining matches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOf course Bafana Bafana are top in the group, it will be a difficult game to play but of course we still believe that we can go there and win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If we want to qualify, those are the games that we need to win. I believe that we can win there, but it\u2019s definitely not going to be easy,\u201d the AFCON 1994 winner said in an interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
